The Special Education Professional plays an integral role in fulfilling the mission of the institution: which involves performing duties with and for students with varying degrees of learning disability as well as providing specialized support and education for parents, teachers and other care givers.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The Special Educator will:         
  • Observe and evaluate the specific needs of children in the school system.         
  • Determine the learning deficiency of students through the administration of formal educational assessment tools.         
  • Prepare individualized education plans.         
  • Help children overcome academic challenges through the use of special education teaching techniques.         
  • Play an integral role in the development of educational programmes, and strategies to improve academic performance of children in Jamaica.

RESEARCH OFFICER - The National Family Planning Board

The National Family Planning Board, A Statutory Agency of the Ministry of Health is seeking to identify a motivated, results-orientated and qualified professional to fill the following vacancy: RESEARCH OFFICER
The Research Officer will be required to collect, analyse and interpret data to inform the development and evaluation of Sexual Health Policies, as well as performing on-going evaluations and preparing draft statements on the impact of Sexual Health initiative.
Technical/Professional Responsibilities         
  • Assist the Director, Monitoring, Evaluation & Research in developing/updating the research agenda for sexual and reproductive health issues         
  • Assist in undertaking research for the organisation.        
  • Develop links with and ensure effective collaboration through working partnership with other agencies.         
  • Liaise with research institutions to co-ordinate the implementation of projects to implement the research agenda, collate and analyse research findings.        
  • Manage Special Projects identified as priorities by the Research Agenda.         
  • Analyse qualitative as well as quantitative information and prepare user-friendly summaries for dissemination to external audiences using a range of channels.         
  • Design and implement research to evaluate educational material (produced by the organization) as they are being developed.         
  • Compile periodic updates on project progress and performance         
  • Prepare abstracts for conference presentation/publication         
  • Represent the organization at meetings, seminars, workshops from time to time.
Required Competencies:

  • Sound knowledge of demography, population studies and sexual health.
Minimum Required Education and Experience         
  • First degree in Social Sciences or any related discipline from a recognised tertiary institution.         
  • Three (3) years’ experience in research and statistical analysis with emphasis on social research. Experience should also be in the areas of qualitative and quantitative data gathering.
